SCOTUS - Conservative group opposes Roberts

A conservative organization based in Virginia is expressing its opposition to the nomimation of John Roberts to the Supreme Court.

Why? The gays.

Public Advocate of The United States is not comfortable with Roberts' work in overturning an anti-gay rights measure in Colorado.

The AP reports:

Eugene Delgaudio, president of Public Advocate, hopes his stance will prod others.

Public Advocate, he said, had planned to send out more than 1 million pieces of direct mail for Roberts and conduct polling and petition drives. The drives are now canceled. He said he would poll his group to see whether members want him to be neutral, spend money to oppose Roberts or reinstate support.

This is not the first time Delgaudio has gone up against the Bush administration.

Delgaudio criticized Vice President Dick Cheney last year after the vice president, when asked about gay marriage, said, "Freedom means freedom for everyone."

Delgaudio said then: " 'Freedom' is not embracing perversion."
