League of Nations?

John McCain tells an audience that we need a "League of Nations" to confront Iran on its nuclear ambitions.

I wonder if anybody bothered to tell him that we already have one of those. It's called the United Nations. There was a League of Nations once upon a time, but it didn't work out.

At the end of the clip, McCain says, "if you live long enough anything can happen." Yeah, like senility.

Arianna has a blockbuster piece up about how embarrassing and disturbing the McCain spectacle has become.

Every time McCain screws up, the media jump all over themselves to make it better, as if grandpa had said something embarrassing at the dinner table and it needed to be smoothed over as quickly as possible.
She is right. It would be foolish to expect any member of the Swift Boat Media for McCain to point out that he literally seems to have no idea what he is talking about, no matter the subject. They are completely in the tank for the guy.

It does not matter, apparently, that while holding forth on stage about foreign policy, McCain proposes, very seriously, the formation of something that already exists - namely, an organization of nation states dedicated to the resolution of international conflicts. And it does not matter, apparently, that this befuddled person is his party's presumptive nominee for President of the United States. He's a good guy. He rides on the bus with them and makes them barbecued chicken and ribs. The media have, and will continue to cut him all the slack they can.

And why not? It's not as though there is anything important at stake like, say, the future of our country.
