Liberal bloggers consume a lot of bandwidth talking about the "base" of the Republican Party. How, we wonder, could even a sliver of the American populace this narrow still stand behind George W. Bush? How can they continue to believe that invading and occupying Iraq was a good idea? How can they support torture? How has the GOP convinced these poor souls to sign on to its destructive economic agenda?
Wonder no more.
Got that?
The eight years of peace and prosperity we enjoyed under Bill Clinton were "hell."
If Hillary Clinton becomes president, America will descend into communism and socialism (oh my!).
Hillary doesn't have "American values."
Hillary will "end America as we know it."
Hillary doesn't have "one accomplishment" than anyone can name. Obviously, her law degree from Yale, her successful legal career, the marriage she fought to save, the wonderful daughter she raised, and her two elections to the United States Senate don't count as "accomplishments."
And, last but not least, Rudy Giuliani is "strong."
There you have it, folks - the GOP base in all its glory: willfully ignorant and impervious to reason.
This is what the Republican Party's candidates have to appeal to in order to win. It's almost enough to make you feel sorry for them.
