Humana's 'SiCKO' Memos

The Louisville Eccentric Observer (LEO), an alt-weekly newspaper in Louisville, KY, asked employees of Humana to send in any internal memoranda from company executives responding to SiCKO, Michael Moore's indictment of the American healthcare industry. Several employees responded, and the memos are available in the latest edition of LEO.

Generally, the memos challenge the accuracy of the film, while acknowledging at the same time the need for healthcare reform in the United States.

"While this film does not accurately depict the health benefits industry, we have long championed the need for fundamental, consumer-focused transformation of health care."

    [...]

"We urge the country to embrace coverage for everyone by shoring up the safety net, providing a helping had for working families and encouraging the purchase of health care coverage."

    [...]

"Despite the film's inaccuracies, those of you who choose to view it may find opportunities to identify areas where Humana can continue to make a positive, proactive difference in the health and lives of consumers."
