Mitt Romney can bash gays 24 hours a day every day between now and the 2008 Republican National Convention. He still has no chance to become president, and he will be happier if he accepts that sad fact now, rather than later.
Romney is railing against gay marriage to show religious conservatives that he shares their values.
Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) said Sunday that he will ask the state's highest court this week to order a ballot question on same-sex marriage if legislators fail to vote on the matter when they reconvene in January.Whatever. Evangelicals and other fundamentalist Christians still won't support his candidacy for president. Why? Because he is a Mormon.
Romney said he will ask a justice of the state's Supreme Judicial Court to direct the secretary of state to place the question on the ballot if lawmakers do not vote directly on the question Jan. 2, the final day of the current session. Romney's term as governor expires Jan. 4.
The legislature is in recess and, because it did not adjourn, Romney has no legal authority to call legislators back into session.
Romney, an opponent of same-sex marriage, made his announcement to the cheers of hundreds of same-sex-marriage opponents at a rally on the Statehouse steps.
Fundamentalist Christians consider the Church of Latter Day Saints to be a cult. Literally. People who believe the bible is the inerrant word of God have nothing but contempt for the idea than an angel showed Joseph Smith a set of golden plates upon which the real word of God was written. They have nothing but contempt for people who believe that story.
The Christian bible warns against adding or taking anything away from the word of God. The Book of Mormon does precisely that. Therefore, to fundamentalist Christians, the LDS is a cult, and they will not support a Mormon for president.
It does not matter how hard he fights against safe, legal abortion. It does not matter how loudly he calls for bans on gay marriage. Mitt Romney has absolutely zero chance of becoming president. Even if he were, by some miracle (no pun intended), to get the GOP nomination, Evangelicals would likely produce their own third-party candidate to fight him. This would split the Republican vote, and the Democratic candidate, whoever he or she might be, would sail into the Oval Office on greased skids.
And, even if the Evangelicals did not produce their own candidate, at the very least, millions of these core GOP voters would simply stay home on election day, producing the same result.
The non-religious strategists in the Republican Party understand this. They will tolerate Romney's pretentions right up to the moment that stress fractures in the GOP coalition start to appear. Then, they will take him down hard. They won't risk having the religious conservatives leave the GOP to run their own candidate or start their own party.
Give it up, Mitt. It's already over.

Revelation 22: 18-19 First of all, this quote from the book of Revelation is used by many Fundamentalists exactly how you say it is, but it might be interesting to note that the book of Revelation was written BEFORE much of the New Testament. So those who use this scripture to say anything written afterwards is invalid are either unfamiliar with the history of the present day Bible or really don't think the last half of most of the new testament is scripture.
Unfortunatelly you might be absolutelly right about Mitts chances because he is a Mormon. There are many people who hate Mormonism and believe it is a cult. I am going to say right out they are absolutelly wrong. The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints believes in the Bible just as much as they believe in the Book of Mormon, and does not consider the Book of Mormon to be a substitute for the Bible. And how ever much contempt many "christian" people may have for Joseph Smith and the story of the Angel, I don't see how believing in Moses (who saw the face of God) or Paul (who heard the voice of God) is any more far fetched than the story of Joseph Smith. Unless of course we all assume that God is different now than he was back then. But this is a discussion for another day.
Aside from the getting the name of the church wrong in your blog and not completely understanding the religious doctrine of the "Mormon" church. You are right that there are many "christian" churches which believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a cult and who go around blacklisting those who call themselves Mormons for what they believe. I won't even go into how rediculous I think this is, but I will say, I think it is really sad that in a country where we pride ourselves in religious freedom that a person can be completely written off because of they are "Mormon".

I hope you understand that I was not making a value judgment about the LDS. I was simply analyzing Mitt Romney's chances to win the Republican presidential nomination with respect to his faith. Evangelicals won't support him. I think it's a sad commentary on our politics, too, but that doesn't change the fact of it.

Most Americans know that Massachusetts is the only state that allows
gay marriage. And they probably also know that Mitt Romney was governor
when gay marriage was legalised. What I’m not sure many smooth twinks know
around the country is how this came to pass. This was not a bill that
passed through the state house and senate, then on to Romney’s desk for
a signature. This was a case of liberal, activist judges instituting
their own twink blowjob policy preferences onto the citizens of Massachusetts,
where they had no right to do so. They forced Mass. residents to accept
something that polls show a vast majority of residents don’t want.
A citizen’s group gathered up more than enough signatures to have this
issue go to the naked twinks for a vote in 2008 on this issue and have the
constitution amended according to the vote. This meant that there had
to be a constitutional convention,which there was, where a vote would
have to be taken to put this issue on the ballet by Mass. law.
