Just give 'em a minute!

E.J. Dionne is getting snippy about all that Democratic infighting in congress, also known as "politics."

Democrats might usefully take a break from their inane round of back-stabbing and score-settling to focus, for a few moments, on why voters gave them their congressional majorities. A lot of Americans are hurting in the pocketbook, and if Democrats don't use the next two years to help them, the party will squander the trust it has temporarily earned.
Um... E.J.? Did you notice that the Democrats haven't actually assumed control of the congress just yet?

The 110th Congress does not begin until January. Democrats are still in the minority of the 109th Congress. They won't gain control of the agenda until they actually take over the majority.

They'll get to it, E.J. Just give them a minute.

And, as Atrios says:

Speaking of Silly People No One Should Listen To

David Ignatius:

The new House speaker, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, had a disastrous post-election week in which her first priority seemed to be settling scores rather than solving these big problems. Shame on her!
I know I'm just an idiot with a cable modem and David Ignatius gets to write for the Washington Post, but for the record the Speaker of the House is currently Dennis Hastert (emphasis added). He's running the show. The Democrats don't take control for another couple of months. If big problems aren't being solved, it's because Dennis Hastert isn't trying to solve them. The Democrats had leadership elections, as did the Republicans. People took sides in those elections. That's pretty normal stuff. Some people won, and some people did not.
How did any of this nonsense make it onto the pages of the Washington Post? Doesn't that paper employ editors anymore?
