Bush bluster received poorly across the pond

The reviews are in, and the British are displeased by George W. Bush's trash talk at the G8 Summit.

Particularly, the president's "Yo, Blair" crack seems to have struck a raw nerve.

The British media pored over the text of the conversation, saying it cast Blair in a subservient role and showed the unequal nature of Britain's much-vaunted "special relationship" with the United States.

"Yo, Bush! Start treating our prime minister with respect," the popular tabloid Daily Mirror said, joining others in seeing the U.S. president's greeting as disrespectful.

The broadcast chat "reinforces the damaging public image of Blair as the U.S. president's poodle," it said.
The Germans, too, would likely find Bush's behavior toward their head of state disagreeable. I don't know if he still fancies himself a "CEO President," but he might want to take a refresher course on avoiding sexual harrassment in the workplace. Angela Merkel is the chancellor of Germany. I think she has the right not to have some pig stroking her shoulders uninvited.

Look at Bush's face in the pictures. The man looks drunk.

Can anybody remember an American president conducting himself so poorly in any context, to say nothing of a conference of world leaders?

What an embarrassment for Bush. What an embarrassment for America.
