The Washington Times' Insight Magazine publishes another in a series of articles about how awful and incompetent the Bush administration is.
The latest installment from the right-wing outlet finds the president ignoring just about every issue related to American government, with the exception of two: his war and his party.
President Bush has decided to stay out of the lion's share of decisions made by his administration. What Insight does not explain, perhaps because it should be self-evident, is that of the two issues Bush is paying attention to, one is an unqualified disaster and the other is a disaster-in-the-making.
Sources close to the administration said that over the last year, Mr. Bush has chosen to focus on two issues, leaving the rest to be decided by Cabinet members and senior aides. They said the issues are Iraq and the Republican congressional campaign in the 2006 elections.
"Lots of important issues that deal with national security are never brought to the president because he doesn't want to deal with them," a source familiar with the White House said. "In some cases, this has resulted in chaos."
If Bush is focusing on Iraq, it is fair to wonder if he is, in fact, trying to make it fail. If he is focusing on Iraq, what on earth is he doing? Proofreading speeches about how great everything is over there?
And, concerning the 2006 elections, it might be better for the Republicans if he ignores them the way he is ignoring everything else. If the GOP's rapidly disintegrating currency is the result of Bush's involvement, there might not be a Republican Party by November. What, that Dubai Ports World deal was supposed to strengthen the GOP's hand on national security?
When it comes to George W. Bush's handling of the people's business, we are clearly damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
