John McCain's senior economic advisor says even though McCain said he would fire SEC Chair Christopher Cox if he were president, that's not what he meant.
On a conference call, McCain advisor Douglas Holtz-Eakin said McCain "made clear what his standards are for performance" and that he'd "ask for the resignation" of an SEC chairman in this case, were he president. When I wrote a previous post on this topic, I forgot that John McCain doesn't speak for the McCain campaign.
My bad.
