AP: Edwards dropping out

There were earlier reports that John Edwards had cancelled campaign appearances to deliver a speech in New Orleans.

The Associated Press has learned Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is leaving the presidential race Wednesday. The former North Carolina senator finished third in the Florida "beauty contest" voting on Tuesday.

Two advisers say Edwards has notified a close circle of senior advisers that he plans to make the announcement Wednesday at noon in New Orleans.

New Orleans is where he began his campaign.

Will he throw his support to Obama or Clinton? Either way, it could make an enormous difference on Super Tuesday.
