'Unusual activity of Pakistanis'

Based his public statements, I am willing to bet that prior to her assassination, Mike Huckabee could not have told you what country Benazir Bhutto was from. In fact, I am willing to bet that he had never even heard of her.

His initial response indicated that he had literally no understanding of the political situation in Pakistan. He was under the impression, for example, that the country was still under martial law. That, or he thinks South Asian countries are always under martial law, and based his answer on that.

Also, for some reason, he was moved to offer "our sincere concern and apologies" over the murder.

Now, demonstrating once again his keen grasp of the political crisis in Pakistan, Huckabee warns vaguely of possible blowback right here on American soil.

"We ought to have an immediate, very clear monitoring of our borders and particularly to make sure if there's any unusal activity of Pakistanis coming into the country. We just need to be very, very thorough in looking at every aspect of our own security internally because, again, we live in a very, very dangerous time," Huckabee said during a news conference Thursday night in West Des Moines.
Why would we need to "particularly" monitor the comings and goings of Pakistanis in the United States? Beats the heck out of me. According to Huckabee, it is because we live in a dangerous time. How dangerous? "Very, very dangerous," according to Pastor Mike.

And what kind of "unusual activity" is he talking about? Should I be alarmed, for example, if I see a group of Pakistani men on unicycles riding around in circles juggling bowling pins? That would be unusual. Should that worry me, or should I only become concerned if they are doing that with what look like road flares taped to their chests?

And what borders is he talking about? All of them, including the east, west, and Gulf coasts? And how on earth would we monitor them in the first place?

I'm sure this nonsensical rhetoric plays well to paranoid, clueless GOP primary voters, but for the life of me, I have no idea what any of it means.

This is what the Republican Party has come to. Know-nothings, literally, are considered credible candidates for the presidency of the United States.

Just imagine another President George W. Bush, only not as smart.

That's a lot more scary than a bunch of juggling Pakistanis.
