As the Writers Guild strike continues into its third week, NBC late night TV host Carson Daly is enlisting his friends and family to provide him with material so he can go back on the air.
The Smoking Gun got ahold of an e-mail that Daly sent out soliciting jokes for the strikebreaking return of "Last Call."
Hello- So, at some point during my first week back on the air I will be mentioning the devastating writers strike and saying something to the effect of "A TON of my friends and family have all be calling me, leaving messages, offering their help with jokes because they know that I don't have any writers working and hosting a latenight show without them will be impossible for me [apparently not impossible, according to the dictionary definition of that word, however - ed.], SO I thought it would be fun to play some of their "suggested jokes" for you tonight..."Yes, that sounds like truly compelling television, Carson. It is certainly better than waiting for the strike to end so your writers can come back to, you know, write you some material.
I will then play some, most, or all of your jokes on the air, in a string.
Good luck with that.
