Former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, who flirted briefly with his own bid for the presidency, is supporting Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.
Vilsack, a two-term governor who left office in January, ended his campaign on Feb. 23 after only three months, saying he was unable to raise the money to compete with better-known candidates such as Clinton.Despite their differences over Iraq (he wants congress to cut off funding for the war), Vilsack says he will work hard to help Hillary win the Iowa caucuses, which would give her enviable momentum toward winning the nomination.
Vilsack said he quickly decided to throw his support to Clinton. Her support for renewable energy and approach to health care played a part in the decision, as did a longtime family relationship with the Clintons, he said.
