The Blasphemy Challenge

[UPDATED, January 16, 2007]

There is an ad on many of the bigger blogs that links to a site called "The Blasphemy Challenge." On this site, people are offered the chance to receive a free DVD of a movie called "The God Who Wasn't There." The catch is that you have to send a video of yourself blaspheming the Holy Spirit. If you are one of the first 1001 people to do this, you will receive a free DVD.

People, don't do this.

God is real. Jesus Christ does not lie. Jesus says that there is no forgiveness for those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
I don't know if the person conducting The Blasphemy Challenge is the devil, or just some idiot. What I do know is that it isn't worth it. It may seem like a joke. It is not a joke. Jesus means what He says.

A free DVD of this movie is not worth eternity in hell. It pains me even to have to write such a thing, but I don't want to have missed an opportunity to help even one person see the truth.

God loves you. He wants you in heaven with Him once your time on earth is over. Don't throw your soul away over this kind of foolishness.

Jesus says a lot of problematical things which are ignored. Riches, following the old testament, killing children that curse their parents etc. I'm sure we can safely ignore this one as well.

For those of you looking for the link to the challenge site, click here, www.blasphemychallenge.com.

It encourages you to publicly state your lack of belief in the christian god myth. While you're at it, why not acknowledge your lack of belief in some others, Allah, Zeus, etc.

My friends, this is foolishness.

Please don't do it.

I find it ironic that theists call atheists arrogant! What kind of belief system makes disbelief the ultimate crime? An arrogant one. And people who don't believe the exact same as you aren't just expressing their beliefs, or forming an independent opinion, but are "foolish", "the devil", or "an idiot"? Puh-lease. Do you object to considering the possiblity that your belief system is wrong? Where's *your* open mind?

Think for yourself, people. Seriously.

I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

I've denied the holy spirit, and I am not afraid.

If you believe your god created everything, then your God created Smallpox. Such an entity would not be deserving of worship even if it did exist.

hm. your concern about this challenge implies a God that rules by power and fear.
Not for me, thanks.

Actually, thats not true. The reason your god isn't for me is because he doesn't exist.
Jesus never existed.

I understand that shedding the comfort and safety of a lie can be terrifying, but there's no need to drag us down into the illusion...

except, of course, to make it more concrete in your eyes.

Personally, I think I'll enjoy a free life, instead, thanks.

"God is real."

Because, um, you say so? Oh, no, because /he/ says so. Hmm, seems so circular.

"Jesus Christ does not lie."

Um, because you say so? In any case, since Jesus either never existed or is dead, then indeed he doesn't lie. But he may have.

"Jesus says that there is no forgiveness for those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit."

Um, so? It's nonsense whether he said it not.

Why is it that so many Christians are so /transparently/ stupid? I mean, it doesn't take /that/ much effort not to be.

Repeat yourself much?

Do you really think that your god, the one who created light, gravity, electricity and the laws they obey, the galaxies and stars, the planets and all the flora, fauna, streams and mountains, and the human brain ... that god would subject someone to infinite torture just because, as a teenager, they made a video in which they uttered some challenge words? Do you /really/ think that god is as petty and stupid as you are?

They are not really committing the unpardonable sin. Read the text carefully. You have to attribute the Holy Spirit's work to the devil. Mere unbelief is not blasphemy of the HS. They need to get their hermeneutics right.

> "Mere unbelief is not blasphemy of the HS."

Anonymous (clever and courageous handle, by the way) apparently hasn't seen any of the Blasphemy Challenge videos: the posters are not just guilty of "mere unbelief". They clearly and publicly state that they believe the Holy Spirit does not exist. Although Apologetics are notorious for warping definitions to better fit their subjective and insincere interpretation of reality, it would be extremely difficult to define how such a public display of disbelief does not meet the definition of blasphemy: impious utterance or action concerning God or sacred things.

Nice try, but re-ask Hermes and I think you'll find this particular hermeneutic aptly describes the subject activities.

The saying "ignorance is bliss" only works for you people in this world. On Judgment Day there will be no excuse. As the Bible says, “only a fool says in his heart there is no God.”

The Bible was written decades, if not longer after "christs" death. And yet holds direct quotations from him. That's like taking pictures of something 100 years before the camera was invented.

NOT PROOF!

There is NO proof "christ" existed, outside of the Bible. Much less, what he said.

You do realize bible(S) (yes plural) are all human written, yes?

Get a grip.

The coward dies a thousand times, brave men never taste of death but once, and I can smell the believers' fear from a thousand miles away.

I deny the extistence of the holy spirit and I'm not afraid.

Interesting, the the atheists from the Blasphemy Challenge technically do not believe in God His Words, correct? Then why are they asking people to commit an act defined in the Bible as the unforgivable sin, unless they believed the Bible when it said that blasphemy was the unforgivable sin?

Hmm...sounds circular to me.

Now...Maybe they'll just respond that that isn't the point they're trying to make at all...maybe. It bears looking into the REAL nature of The Blasphemy Challenge perhaps a little more carefully. The real fool is the one who accepts blindly without question...that would be irrational...right?
