Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia

I don't have much to add to the din about the president's outrageous contention that, "we've never been stay the course" on Iraq, except to say that he's not even trying to be subtle, clever or cute anymore. The switchblade has been replaced with the jackhammer.

It is as though somebody read 1984 to George W. Bush, and the only lesson he took from it was, "you know, that Big Brother fella had some pretty good ideas."

He accepted everything. The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.

    - George Orwell, 1984
Dear God, deliver us from this nightmare.
