The national GOP meltdown continues. This stop, Ohio.
Rep. Bob Ney's handpicked successor is very likely ineligible to replace him on the ballot. Ney, tainted by connections to convicted felon lobbyist Jack Abramoff, has announced that he will not seek re-election. Ohio State Sen. Joy Padgett's name has surfaced as a possible replacement for Ney on the ballot.
But, as the AP reports, Padgett was an unsuccessful GOP primary candidate for lieutenant governor this year, and state law bars anyone who loses a political primary from running again in the same year.
One Republican strategist, speaking on condition of anonymity, said lawyers had concluded Padgett was likely covered by the law and thus would not be eligible to run.What kind of Mickey Mouse operation are these guys running, anyway?
Padgett, already campaigning, sounded surprised. "As far as I know I have a green light. If this were the case, it's something I need to know about," she said. "Yesterday, everything was rolling forward."
She said she would quickly consult with party officials.
The developments came one day after Ney announced he would abandon his race for re-election, acting under pressure from party officials who feared the loss of his seat.
On the heels of the news that Tom DeLay must remain on the ballot in his district, and the ongoing tragedy that is the Katherine Harris campaign, and the inability of the Republicans to find a suitable challenger to Hillary Clinton in New York, and Conrad Burns cursing out volunteer firefighters in Montana, to name a few high-profile meltdowns, this is shaping up to be a pretty painful year for the Republican Party.

these are the people who were running the country. these are the same people who are trying to convince the world that they are right and anyone who doesn't believe them is crazy. these are the people who don't let facts get in the way of their beliefs.
