If nothing else, Larry King got Bush to admit that he and Ken Lay really were friends, although he couldn't help trotting out that "he supported Ann Richards" line one last time. Fish gotta swim, I guess. Even Laura admitted she knew Kenny Boy and Linda, although "not very well."
I was amazed, though, by the callousness of his answer when Larry asked Bush if he had called Linda Lay since her husband died. He said he hadn't, and added, "I guess I'll have to sit down and write her a letter at some point." Really, Mr. President? Goodness.
One of your closest friends, despite your idiotic denials, dies and you won't even pick up the phone to call the wife he left behind. Even in death, you're so determined to protect your image that you can't acknowledge the obvious fact that you and Ken Lay were close friends? You campaigned for the presidency while flying around on the man's airplane! That alone doesn't merit a 90 second phone call to his widow? You guess you'll write her a letter. At some point.
I guess that legendary Bush loyalty everybody's always talking about only flows in one direction. Unless you're Donald Rumsfeld, of course. Then, the sky's the limit.

So, they were friends, after all
