Be nice if Bush had killed this animal at Tora Bora when he had the chance.
The Arabic satellite channel Al Jazeera broadcast an audiotape today by Osama bin Laden, in which he said that more attacks against the United States were being prepared, while offering the possibility of a truce under unspecified conditions.
This afternoon, an official of the Central Intelligence Agency said it had authenticated the voice of the tape as that of Mr. bin Laden. This is the first tape by the leader of Al Qaeda to be released in about a year. Al Jazeera said on its Web site that the tape dated back to December, although that has not been confirmed.
The tape's release came after the United States launched an airstrike in a Pakistani village aimed at Mr. bin Laden's second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Mr. bin Laden's voice sounded short-winded on the tape and lacked the charismatic tone typical of the Al Qaeda leader's past recordings.
Al Jazeera published translated excerpts from the audiotape on its English-language Web site, english.aljazeera.net. On the tape, Mr. bin Laden threatened the United States with attacks inside the country, saying preparations for them were under way.
"The new operation of Al Qaeda has not happened not because we could not penetrate the security measures," Mr. bin Laden said, according to Al Jazeera's Web site. "It is being prepared and you'll see it in your homeland very soon"
