Louisiana congressman to donate Abramoff money

U.S. Congressman Charles Boustany (R-LA) is donating to charity $38,000 he received from interests connected to indicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Boustany said today that the money will be given to the Vermilion Parish School Board Hurricane Relief Fund, to Cameron Parish for mosquito control and to the United Way of Southwest Louisiana for work on housing in Calcasieu Parish.

Boustany says the money was originally donated to him by political action funds linked to Representative Tom Delay of Texas, Bob Ney of Ohio, and Randy "Duke" Cunningham of California, as well as the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana.

Boustany says the contributions were legal and did not influence his decisions. But, he says he decided to relinquish the funds because some were trying to use the issue to question his integrity.
It certainly did not take Boustany long to start playing the DeLay/Abramoff money game. He managed to collect nearly $40 thousand connected to the disgraced lobbyist since taking office in December, 2004.
