Thirty. Four. Percent

Last night, at the end of an analysis of Bush/Cheney's attacks against critics of the Iraq war, I wrote the following:

I cannot wait to see the next round of polling results. I suspect that, rather than restoring Bush's credibility, this ugliness will send him sliding to new depths.
This morning, quelle surprise, we find the president(s) sliding to new depths.

President Bush's positive job rating continues to fall, touching another new low for his presidency, the latest Harris Interactive poll finds.

Bush's current job approval rating stands at 34%, compared with a positive rating of 88% soon after 9/11, 50% at this time last year, and 40% in August.
Sub-35. Wow.

So, what now, Mr. President(s)? Maybe you can turn things around if your critics begin disappearing in the middle of the night. Maybe your numbers will start to go up, not that you pay any attention to them in the first place, if a few prominent anti-war journalists get blown up in their cars. Character assassination is not working, clearly. Maybe actual assassination will do the trick.

Good thoughts on Gilliard comment thread, thought I'd stop buy. I like to write too, but mostly in places like this rather than my own blog, because your blogs make my writing low maintenance. Thanks for that.
Now, regarding Bush and his critics and his poll numbers:Prescient, your evening words about disappearing critics. I hope NOT prescient on Bush possibly disappearing his critics.
