Dear Bill,
Media Matters filled me in on your latest rant over the so-called War on Christmas TM:
Anyone offended by the words 'Merry Christmas' has problems not even St. Nicholas could solve. You're really close to the truth on this one, Bill. So close, yet so tragically far away.
Every company in America should be on its knees thanking Jesus for being born. Without Christmas, most American businesses would be far less profitable; more than enough reason for businesses to be screaming Merry Christmas.
See, Bill, Jesus was not born so that American businesses could be profitable. I'm sure it is wonderful that there is this specified time of year that the American business community can sock away some cash for the lean times later on. That's great. But, I doubt that Jesus cares. In fact, Bill, the whole idea of profiting from the use of His holy name is quite antithetical to the reason He was born. He is the savior of mankind, not the savior of the bottom line.
This, Bill, is why I am not bothered by those businesses calling them "Holiday Sales" instead of "Christmas Sales." Jesus was born and died on the cross and rose from the dead so that you and I could go to heaven instead of hell, Bill. Period.
Without Jesus, Bill, every man and woman on Earth is going to hell. It is the wages of our sinful human nature. Nothing can cleanse us but the blood of Jesus. That is how enormous Jesus is, Bill. That is how magnificent He is. It is how powerful His name is. His name is omnipotent, Bill.
Invoking the great and glorious name of Christ for the sake of commerce is offensive. It is, in fact, blasphemous. The name above all names was not meant to be taken for such vain and petty reasons. This is why it is quite wonderful for businesses to adopt "Holiday" rather than "Christmas" to describe the raw, naked commericialism that characterizes so much of this season. And, who could deny that "Holiday Sale" is better than "X-mas Sale," Bill? Remember that one? Be honest. Don't you prefer "Holiday" over "X" to describe this season of joy and goodwill toward men?
Let me speak for a moment about the other big WoC bugagoo: The Holiday Party.
Have you ever been to a company Christmas Party, Bill? What was the most godly thing that happened at last year's Fox "News" Christmas Party? Think for a moment before you answer.
Get my point? How can it be a bad thing to separate His name from the drinking and flirting that take place at those events? That's a rhetorical question, Bill. You know the answer.
Stop being a demagogue, Bill. You have been given the gift of your own forum on a national television network. If you wish to take up the cause of Christ, you will find no greater supporter than me. But, please make sure that it is actually Christ's cause you are taking up. He desires to see all people saved from an eternity in Hell. That's why he was born and why he died. His blood can wash us as white as Christmas snow.
Use The O'Reilly Factor to preach that good news, Bill. Share your personal witness with us. Perhaps it will inspire your viewers to turn away from the things of the world and embrace the things of God. I assure you that those things don't come with a red tag offering 50 percent off between now and December 24th.
