Limbaugh: New Orleans Mayor "Nayger"

Mayor "Nayger"

Via The Raw Story, Rush Limbaugh referred to New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin as "Nayger."

Yeah.

The walk-back on this will, of course, be to the effect that Limbaugh simply misspoke, had a slip of the tongue.

Nonsense.

Back in the 90s, then-Congressman Dick Armey started a ruckus when he referred to Rep. Barney Frank as "Barney Fag." This was during an interview with a group of radio reporters. Armey blamed the media for blowing his slip of the tongue out of proportion.

However, it was clear to most sane people that "Barney Fag" was the way Armey had grown accustomed to referring to Rep. Frank in casual conversation. He did not have a slip of the tongue. He had a slip of the mind. He simply forgot to turn his filter on.

Likewise, Mr. Limbaugh has revealed himself as the most garden-variety racist. In the short time that New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin has been on the national stage, Limbaugh has managed to turn his name into a racist joke. It is similar to the way little white kids used to joke in World Geography class by pronouncing Niger "Nigger."

No slip of the tongue, as Rush will no doubt insist next week. Slip of the mind.

Barney Frank responded to DeLay by saying, "No one has ever mis-spoken my mother's last name that way." Devastating.
