In the space of a few hours, Hurricane Rita has strengthened from a Category 3 storm to a Category 5. The most recent measure clocks the storm's winds at an amazing 165 miles per hour.
About an hour ago, as I made my way home along Interstate 10 through Baton Rouge, I noticed dozens of utility trucks heading west toward Texas. I don't know who is coordinating this effort, but it is good that they are not waiting until the storm passes to get those crews in place. Have them on the ground waiting out the storm and ready to get to work as soon as it passes.
