CBS: Brownie back at FEMA

CBS News is reporting on its blog that FEMA has hired Michael Brown (yes, that Michael Brown) as a consultant to evaluate the agency's response to Hurricane Katrina.

You couldn't make this up. Not even The Onion would come with something like this.

Post-satirical, indeed.

Tip o'hat to The Raw Story and AmericaBlog.

UPDATE

The Raw Story fills in some details:

CBS says they've confirmed Brown had been rehired. Brown resigned after taking heat when a Time Magazine article revealed that he had padded his resume with bogus jobs.
I think I have figured it out. It was all just a misunderstanding. Brown didn't resign from FEMA, he re-signed with FEMA.

Honest mistake, I'm sure.

DOUBLE SUPER-SECRET UPDATE

The CBS "Rita" Blog posts that reporter Gloria Borger has it confirmed that Brown remains on the FEMA payroll.

[A department spokesperson] also said that technically Brown remains at FEMA as a "contractor" and he is "transitioning out of his job." The reason he will remain at FEMA about a month after his resignation, said the spokesman, is that the agency wants to get the "proper download of his experience."
