Well, there is one public official who is getting high marks from the public for his post-Katrina performance: Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden.
From The Baton Rouge Business Report:
Daily Report and BusinessReport.com readers are happy with Kip Holden as mayor. A whopping 85% of 1,352 respondents approve of the job the mayor has done after the storm. The remaining respondents don't approve of his performance.Baton Rouge has done, frankly, a fantastic job of hosting people who were forced out their homes by Hurricane Katrina, and Mayor Holden deserves a healthy dollop of credit for his leadership. Likewise, much praise should go to the leaders of B.R.'s faith community. Bethany World Prayer Center has pulled together a coalition of churches of all denominations to provide food, shelter and clothing to tens of thousands of evacuees.
For a city whose population whose population has basically doubled in the last couple of weeks, Baton Rouge is dealing with its growing pains fairly well. We wouldn't mind a little breathing room traffic-wise. There are more empty gas pumps than most of us would like. And, a lot of the shelves at Wal-Mart, Albertson's and pretty much every other store are looking pretty darned bare. But, with a few exceptions, it has been a smooth transition.
