Biden announces plan to withdraw from 2008 presidential race

In what has to be the most piddling political announcement I have ever heard, Delaware Senator Joe Biden announced that he might probably think about trying to become President of the United States in 2008:

"If, in fact, I think that I have a clear shot at winning the nomination by this November or December, then I'm going to seek the nomination."
Give 'em hell, Joe! Way to rally the troops!

In all seriousness, the following graph from the Boston Globe's story pretty much sums up the beginning and end of Senator Biden's presidential aspirations:

Biden campaigned for the 1988 Democratic nomination but withdrew early in the race after charges that he plagiarized parts of a speech by British Labor Party leader Neil Kinnock and exaggerated his academic record.
I mean, really. If the Repugnicans could make a bona fide war hero like John Kerry look like a loser, what on earth would they do to Biden? It's almost too ugly to contemplate.
