Sinclair flip-flops on "Nightline" event

According to the Associated Press, Sinclair Broadcasting now "applauds" plans by ABC's Nightline to read the names of Iraqi war dead on memorial day. Remember that last year, Sinclair condemned Nightline for trying to send an anti-war message with a similar program.

Only now, Sinclair can't quite remember why it refused to allow its affiliate stations to air the Nightline broadcast.

Joe DeFeo, Sinclair's vice president of news, said programming will air as scheduled on the company's eight ABC affiliates that day.

"Unlike 'Nightline's' reading of the names last year, which coincided with the start of the May ratings sweeps (emphasis added), we feel that this year's Memorial Day selection is the appropriate setting to remember those who have sacrificed their lives to keep all Americans safe and free," the Sinclair statement said.
So, it isn't so much the message but the moment that matters? If it is not on Memorial Day, then it is just a ratings stunt? I would suggest to Mr. DeFeo that it is always appropriate to honor the men and women who took their last breaths in the service of their country.
