DeLay Blames the Media

From the New York Times:

DeLay Denounces Report
on Payments to His Family

Well, of course he does. Blaming the news media for bad news is instinctive among corrupt and crass politicians. It is more common at the local level of politics, to be sure. This sort of response is more to be expected from a city alderman after reports that his brother-in-law received a no-bid contract to renovate the lobby of the courthouse. A United States congressman should be embarrassed to fall back on such cliches.

He called the article "just another seedy attempt by the liberal media to embarrass me," contending that his wife and daughter had legitimately earned the money by working as valued members of his political team.
Ah, yes. The big, bad "liberal media." Who are you going to blame next, congressman? Osama? Saddam? Maybe they're all in it together! If the press don't stop reporting on your indiscretions, then the terrorists have won, is that it?
