Cornyn Video

Think Progress has the video (Windows Media) of Cornyn's statement on the Senate floor.

Cornyn’s statement manages to be even more vile on video than on the printed page. On some level, I think I was allowing for the fact that I might have been investing the words with more meaning when I read them than he might have when he spoke them. I was wrong.

John Cornyn belongs to the most virulent strain of demagogue. I don’t know which is worse: the words themselves; or the faux regret with which he puts forth his repulsive thesis. That sad shake of the head, the downcast eyes and the soft, sympathetic tone of voice. This is high-concept propaganda from a pathological manipulator. No Republican who allows this man to go without rebuke deserves to call himself or herself an American.

Be ashamed, Republicans. Be ashamed.
