When the Iowa Supreme Court struck down a state law banning same-sex marriage, Family Research Council head Tony Perkins blamed judicial activists for overturning the will of the people and their elected representatives.

City Council voted in favor of equal marriage rights, Mr. Perkins' reverence for the will of the people was nowhere to be found.

Time and again, we see when citizens have the opportunity to vote at the ballot box, they consistently opt to support traditional marriage," said Perkins.Wow. That's some fluid conspiracy theory you got there, Tony.
When judges overrule lawmakers, it's an assault on democracy.
But, somehow, when lawmakers pass laws, it's also an assault on democracy.
I'm really having trouble following this one, Tony. How exactly did the "wealthy homosexual activists" and "liberal elites" force the Vermont legislature to ratify marriage equality for their state's citizens? Are you alleging bribery? Blackmail? Are they all gay? Seriously, where are you coming from on this one?
This, really, is the trap you set for yourself by pretending that you care at all about the process. You don't. If judges rule that gays and lesbians have the right to marry, you want lawmakers to overrule them. If lawmakers decide that gays and lesbians have the right to marry, you want judges to overrule them. All you care about is the result. You want gay and lesbian American citizens consigned permanently to second-class status.
The problem is, freedom is breaking out all over. You don't have enough fingers and toes to plug all the holes in the dike. Every time you look up, there's another leak.
Which is why if you had your way, you would amend the constitution to enshrine bigotry in our nation's founding document and be done with it once and for all.
But if you couldn't pull that off with a Republican president and a Republican majority in congress, what chance do you think you have now?
